WATCH: JD Vance Warned During 2024 Campaign Iran-Israel Conflict ‘Mostly Likely’ Way to Spark World War III

Vice President JD Vance spoke to podcaster Shawn Ryan in September of 2024 and discussed possible scenarios that could ignite World War III. Vance pointed to a potential conflict between Iran and Israel as both the most likely and “dangerous” possible World War III scenario.

“I think the most likely and the most dangerous scenario is Iran and Israel right now. So obviously, the Israelis are on high alert. They just had this terrorist attack. They’re dealing with Hamas. You know, what if in North Israel, a bunch of Iranian-backed militias start killing thousands of Israeli civilians, okay?” Vance told Ryan – a former U.S. Navy SEAL and Blackwater contractor turned podcaster.

“So the Israelis invade, the Iranians counterattack, and now you have Israel, Iran in a regional conflict. The Turks probably have to get involved, the Saudi Arabians probably have to get involved. And then that is the sort of thing that could balloon into World War III,” Vance said before offering another possible scenario:

And then the final thing, man, is, you know China wants Taiwan, right? Everything that we have tells us the Chinese want Taiwan. America, I think, has left Taiwan in a really crappy position because we’ve sent all our weapons to Ukraine. The Taiwanese, I don’t know if they could repel a Chinese invasion right now.

And so do the Chinese invade Taiwan, that leads to some sort of accelerating conflict there. So there are basically at least three hot spots in the world right now that each have the potential to become a major worldwide conflict. It’s really scary.

Vance, who leads the more isolationist-leaning wing of the GOP, also made headlines during the campaign for suggesting the U.S. would not get involved in a war between Iran and Israel. Speaking to MAGA podcaster and comedian Tom Dillion in October, Vance said, “Obviously, Israel has the right to defend itself, but America’s interest is sometimes going to be distinct.”

“Sometimes we’re going to have overlapping interests, and sometimes we’re gonna have distinct interests. And our interest, I think, is very much in not going to war with Iran. It would be a huge distraction of resources, it would be massively expensive to our country,” Vance said, adding:

And it’s interesting to me when the October 7th thing happened. And like, you know, we have a couple of dear friends who live in Israel, actually one of my wife’s very good friends she grew up with married an Israeli guy, like, we’re like worried about our friends.

And in the reaction to it, what I noticed is that American, you know, American pro-Israel people or people who fashion themselves as pro-Israel were actually much more militaristic than the Israelis who were living in Israel. The Israelis were like, okay, Hamas just attacked us, we are going to go really screw Hamas up.

And of course, yeah, there’s a humanitarian side of that, and we want to try to minimize civilian casualties. But like you had Americans saying, oh, this is really, I mean, you know, this attack happened on Putin’s birthday, right? So we need to go to war against Russia.

And obviously, the Iranians funded part of this, we need to go to war with Iran. We just have to be smarter, right, we have to be smarter. Now I don’t want Iran to get a nuclear weapon. And I think we should be like very strongly encouraging the Iranians and using all, you know, all the influence that we have. To encourage them to not have a nuclear weapon.

I think nuclear proliferation is just a bad idea. Enough people have nukes. And the more people that have nukes, I think the greater the risk of nuclear war. But we just have to be smart about it.
