WATCH: Alabamians Cheer When Marjorie Taylor Greene Brags They Live in ‘One of the Most Unvaccinated States in the Nation’
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene suggested that “people in the south who love their Second Amendment” greet anyone coming to their door to promote the Covid vaccine with a firearm. She also boasted that Alabama was one of the most unvaccinated states in the nation, which elicited cheers.
A lot is going on in the video clip above from an Alabama political event that featured the recently elected Republican firebrand. The video clip has gone viral, in large part due to promotion by Gun Reform activist Shannon Watts, who tweeted the clip and added, “Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene suggests gun owners kill people encouraging vaccinations. She included the following comment from Taylor Greene” “…in the South, we all love our Second Amendment rights. And we’re not really big on strangers showing up at our door, are we? They might not like the welcome they get.”
The Georgia Congresswoman references a program considered by some in the Biden administration that featured door-to-door outreach designed to inform vaccine-hesitant the benefits of the Covid-19 vaccine and explain where and how they can inoculate themselves from the potentially deadly pathogen. Many on the right have misinterpreted that outreach program, including Rep. Madison Cawthorn, who warned that it was the first step in government taking citizens’ guns and bibles from them. He really said that.
Rep. Taylor Greene similarly mongered fear, saying, “well, Joe Biden wants to talk to you guys. He’s going to be sending one of his police state friends to your front door, to knock on the door” and ask for private information, including whether you’ve taken the vaccine or not. “What they don’t know is in the South, we all love our Second Amendment rights. And we’re not really big on strangers showing up at our door, are we? They might not like the welcome they get.”
She then complained that Dr. Anthony Fauci was never elected, gets paid more than President Joe Biden (who has the temerity to take a salary, unlike former President Donald Trump.)
Oh, and at the beginning of the clip, Taylor Greene also touted the fact that Alabama “might be one of the most unvaccinated states” in the nation, which elicited a loud cheer from the group of supporters apparently applauding the risk of spreading a deadly virus and getting other people sick and dying.
So, yeah. She is an elected member of Congress. Looking at you, Georgia.
