‘Well Done, Republicans’: Biden Cites Russian TV Host Who Praised GOP Opposition to Ukraine Aid

President Joe Biden made sure Republicans heard loud and clear that failing to extend more aid to Ukraine would be a win for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Putin is banking on the United States failing to deliver for Ukraine. We must, we must, we must prove him wrong,” Biden said at a joint news conference Tuesday with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“It’s stunning that we’ve gotten to this point. You know, we need to fully appreciate — fully appreciate — how this is being viewed around the world and being used by Russia.” Biden continued:

Russian loyalists in Moscow celebrated when Republicans voted to block Ukraine’s aid last week. The host of a Kremlin-run show literally said, and I quote, “Well done, Republicans That’s good for us,” end quote. Let me say that again: the host of a Kremlin-run show said “Well done, Republicans. That’s good for us.” That’s a Russian speaking. If you’re being celebrated by Russian propagandists, it might be time to rethink what you’re doing. History will judge harshly those who turn their back on freedom’s cause.

Zelensky was in the United States Tuesday to meet with senators on Capitol Hill, as well as with Biden. CNN’s Manu Raju said Zelensky received a “warm welcome,” but had “a high hurdle” in order to convince Republicans to green-light aid to Ukraine. In return for granting aid, Republicans have said they want a change in immigration laws to prevent the flow of people coming into the U.S. through the border with Mexico.

“So, even as Zelensky is making this pitch, we don’t expect many minds to be changed,” Raju said.

After the meeting, some senators told Raju they expected the unresolved issue to drag into 2024.

Biden’s national security bill, that was denied by Republicans last week, included $61 billion for Ukraine. Watch the clip above via CNN.
