WH Spox Pressed on Why Trump ‘Hasn’t Said a Word’ About Ukraine’s ‘Audacious Drone Strike’ On Russia
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday was pressed about President Donald Trump’s relative silence in the wake of Ukraine’s latest attack on Russia.
On Monday, it was reported that Ukraine had launched a drone attack on a number of Russian military airfields. The attacks either crippled or outright destroyed more than 40 Russian bombers; and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky later said his country targeted 34% of the “strategic cruise missile carriers at the airfields.” He added that the long-planned offensive had been in the works for more than a year.
Continued attacks by both Russia and Ukraine severely compromise hopes for a lasting ceasefire and an eventual end to the war; and Trump has been critical of both nations for their roles in the conflict. During Tuesday’s White House briefing, Andrew Feinberg of The Independent asked why Trump “hasn’t said a word” about Ukraine’s attack.
“It’s been a couple of days since Ukraine made that audacious drone strike on Russian airfields,” Feinberg said. “The president hasn’t said a word about it; and, usually, he’s not shy about making his thoughts known on the war… or any other subject. What have you heard from him on this audacious drone strike? Is he surprised? He said that Zelensky didn’t have the cards when they met in the Oval Office a few months back. Does Zelensky possibly have some cards that the president hadn’t known about?”
Leavitt claimed that Trump “remains positive” a ceasefire deal can be reached.
