President Donald Trump has been accused of being a hypocrite for his treatment of the Los Angeles protesters compared to the January 6 rioters.

Los Angeles has become the center of national attention as a result of recent protests throughout the city. After a string of immigration raids, thousands took to the streets demanding the expulsion of ICE and other officers. The demonstration eventually turned violent, with protesters throwing rocks at fleeing agents and even fighting back against officers dressed in riot gear.

On Sunday, Trump condemned the attacks on police and vowed to punish the protesters responsible. He then proclaimed, “They spit, we hit.”

“When they spit at people — you know, they spit, that’s their new thing,” Trump said. “They spit and worse. You know what they throw at ’em, right? And when that happens, I have a little statement: They spit, we hit! And I told them — nobody’s going to spit on our police officers. Nobody’s gonna spit on military. Which they do as a common thing. They get up to them this far away, and then they start spitting in their faces. If that happens, they get hit very hard.”

The president doubled down on that point in a Truth Social post the next day.

Critics were quick to point that the Trump administration’s view of the LA protesters was a significant departure from his view of the people he pardoned for storming the Capitol on January 6.
