‘You’re On the Clock!’ Steve Bannon Threatens Speaker Johnson Over Joining With Democrats on Spending Bill

Former Trump campaign manager and White House adviser turned MAGA podcaster, Steve Bannon, lit into new House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) after he passed a spending bill to keep the government open with support from Democrats.

Bannon posted on social media Wednesday summing up his position, “This was a Surrender/Cave to the UniParty—it can’t be looked @ in any different light —only win was the dropping of all the Supplemental Ukraine funding….Speaker now ‘on the clock’ with 75 Days to achieve ‘Conservative Victories.’”

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) took that a bit further and gave Speaker Johnson “10 days” to come up with a plan to reduce spending overall. Roy’s comments came after 19 hardline GOP members voted down a procedural move to advance another appropriations bill in protest of the continuing resolution to keep the government open through early 2024, which passed with 209 Democrats and 127 Republicans voting in favor.

Bannon addressed Johnson during his War Room podcast, saying, “I don’t mean to get on you, but we’re going to get on you because you’re on the clock, brother. Christian Biblical viewpoint or not, you’re on the clock.”

Bannon, who is influential with the MAGA base and led the movement to oust Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as speaker, added:

You told us yesterday and you running up on Fox all the time. You spend way too much time on Murdoch news. Murdoch’s news does not run the deal. You should understand that your predecessor was on Murdoch news all the time and you saw what happened to him.

“And now he’s so viciously insane. He’s trying to throw punches. He’s walking around, he’s stirring the pot. He’s got 17. He’s going to come after all these guys in the district,” Bannon concluded, suggesting McCarthy would use the large amount of money he raised as speaker to go after his GOP enemies.
