Trump Told a Tabloid He Was Getting Divorced Before He Told His Wife
In yet another bizarre anecdote about Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump‘s odd media strategy, Trump reportedly told the New York Post he was going to divorce his wife before he even informed her.
Buzzfeed dug up a clip of a 2005 lecture by Trump biographer Robert Slater, in which he discussed all the parts of his book that Trump asked him to remove. “He asked me to take out an anecdote that he had told me on the plane flying to Chicago about how he had informed his second wife that he was going to divorce her by announcing it first to the New York Post,” Slater said.
Slater said that Trump asked him for the favor because he was still friendly with his now ex-wife, Marla Maples. “I said, ‘Why? It’s the greatest anecdote’s anybody ever told me.’ He said, ‘Because I still have good relations with her. You know, we had a daughter together. Please take it out of the book.’ So I did,” he said.
How did Donald eventually break the news to her? “He put the newspaper down in front of her door that said, ‘Donald is Divorcing Marla.’ That’s how she learned about the divorce.
