ESPN Analyst Says Teams Are ‘Dumb as a Box of Rocks’ if They Factor Aaron Rodgers Into NFL Draft Decisions
ESPN analyst Marcus Spears bluntly expressed his opinion of teams who take Aaron Rodgers into consideration while preparing for the NFL Draft on Thursday.
Shortly after the conclusion of the NFL regular season, the New York Jets informed Rodgers that the team would be moving on from him. His two-year tenure left much to be desired, with him sustaining a season-ending injury in the first year and then failing to take the team to the playoffs in the second. In a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers detailed a tense exchange with the Jets’ new head coach when they met to discuss his future.
There was also speculation that Rodgers, 41, could choose to retire instead of finding a new team. He confirmed on McAfee’s show that he was still putting a great deal of thought into his future. In the meantime, the QB has visited a number of teams to find a potential landing spot.
Ahead of the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday, Spears said on NFL Live that teams would be “dumb as a box of rocks” if they factored Rodgers’ availability into their draft plans.
“I think you are dumb as a box of rocks you’re waiting on Aaron Rodgers,” Spears said. “Any organization in the NFL, you are dumb as a box of rocks if you’re waiting for Aaron Rodgers to tell you if he’s going to play football.
“When we went through all of this with the New York Jets, the conversation revolved around, ‘He would make them Super Bowl contenders.’ Aaron Rodgers in Pittsburgh will not put them in the Super Bowl!”
