Social Media Erupts Over Abysmal Shot by NY Knicks Player: ‘Worst Free Throw Attempt I’ve Ever Seen’
New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson became the talk of social media Wednesday night after a free throw attempt went terribly wrong.
In the fourth quarter of the Knicks’ playoff game against the Boston Celtics, Robinson was at the free throw line to complete a three-point play after he made a layup as he was fouled. In a bit of unintended foreshadowing, TNT analyst and NBA legend Reggie Miller noted that the Celtics should have wrapped up Robinson on the foul to ensure he couldn’t get the shot up. His reasoning was that Robinson is a notoriously poor free throw shooter.
Seconds later, Robinson air-balled the free throw — a rare feat for professional players. What made matters worse was the fact that the ball wasn’t even close to the rim.
“Oh my goodness!” Miller said. “Oh no!”
“Holy smokes!” play-by-play announcer Kevin Harlan added.
“Now you know why you wrap him up early?” Miller continued.
Almost immediately, social media had a field day with what many considered to be one of the worst misses they’d ever seen.
“We promise you are not ready for how bad this Mitchell Robinson free throw attempt was,” said one Barstool Sports account on X/Twitter.
Countless others were just as stunned.
Robinson would ultimately get the last laugh, as he played an instrumental role in the Knicks’ 20-point comeback against the defending champions.
