AeroMexico Ad From Last Year Suddenly Goes Viral After Trump’s Border Wall Shutdown
President Donald Trump‘s border wall debate with Congress has caused a hilarious Mexican airline ad from last year to suddenly go viral.
AeroMexico’s program called “DNA Discounts,” featured in the viral ad, offers flight discounts to Americans who can prove they have Mexican DNA by taking a DNA test. The amount of the discount depends on the percentage of Mexican DNA that is proven present.
“How do we increase USA flights to Mexico if a big part of Americans just don’t like Mexico?” The ad asks. “According to the Department of Homeland Security, Mexican Immigration goes as far as the 1800’s settling in on the south, meaning that a big percentage of Mexican descendants in the USA doesn’t even know it yet. So we did a DNA test to prove it and turn those results into discounts. The more Mexican they are, the more discount they get.”
The ad shows Americans who live in a town near the US-Mexico border, being interviewed and showing disdain for Mexico, then being told the results of a DNA test that proves they have significant Mexican blood in them. The reactions are noteworthy.
“That’s bullshit! That is bullshit!” Says one guy after being told he’s 22 percent Mexican. Another woman frowns after being told she’s 14.4 percent Mexican.
Once told they’re getting a discount for being Mexican, however, the people interviewed show a little more excitement about their DNA.
“I love discounts,” a woman said, after leaning of her Mexican heritage.
