‘Are You Being Nice to Him?’ Trump Fully Backs Speaker Johnson in Closed Door House GOP Meeting, Calls Out MTG for Attacking Him

Former President Donald Trump reportedly expressed full support for Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) during a closed door meeting with House GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill.
Trump made his return to Capitol Hill on Thursday morning for the first time since the Jan. 6th riot. A packed room filled with House lawmakers at the Capitol Hill Club sang “Happy Birthday” to the former president during a private breakfast as Trump reportedly praised Johnson.
According to Politico reporter Olivia Beavers, the presumptive Republican nominee noted that Johnson is “doing a great job” before pointing at Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and asking, “Hello Marjorie, are you being nice to him?” Greene remains one of Trump’s most ardent defenders on Capitol Hill.
Earlier this year, Greene famously moved to vacate the speaker following the passage of a spending bill. The motion failed after Democrats voted across the aisle in absentia to keep Johnson from being replaced as speaker.
Greene’s motion followed the controversial ouster of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who was vacated after Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) brought a motion in response to the passage a spending bill that avoided a government shutdown.
The closed door meeting represents one of the first times Trump has publicly backed Johnson while the speaker and Greene were both in the room at the same time.
