Sen. Gillibrand Calls for Trump to Resign Over Sex Misconduct Allegations: ‘Congress Should Have Hearings’

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand has added her voice to the growing choir of Democratic Senators asking for President Donald Trump to resign, amid a renewed focus on the 16 women who have accused him of sexual misconduct.

Gillibrand recently spoke to CNN’s Christiane Amanpour and was unabashedly candid in her belief that Trump needs to step down.

“President Trump should resign,” she said. “These allegations are credible. They are numerous. I’ve heard these women’s testimony and many of them are heartbreaking and President Trump should resign his position.”

While the New York Senator thinks Trump should resign “immediately,” she did say that Congress should step in and conduct an investigation if he refuses to do so.

“Whether he will ever hold himself accountable is something you really can’t hold your breath for,” she said. “Congress should have hearings. They should do their investigation. They should have appropriate investigations of his behavior and hold him accountable.”

“Why do we not believe women? Why do we not investigate their allegations?”

Gillibrand joins Sen. Cory Booker and Sen. Jeff Merkley in asking for the resignation of President Trump. Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders expressed a similar sentiment while appearing on Meet the Press, though stopping short of asking for a resignation.

Al Franken felt it proper for him to resign. Here you have a president who has been accused by many women of assault who says on a tape that he assaulted women, he might want to think about doing the same,” Sanders said.
