The View Debates: Has America Become ‘Numb’ to Trump’s ‘Racism and Revenge?’

The set of The View was unusually subdued Monday after the hosts played clips of Donald Trump’s “racist” comments made over the weekend, and his threat that Nov. 5 will be “our liberation day…and their judgment day.”

“So he’s running on racism and revenge,” Whoopi Goldberg said. “Is that a winning platform or have most people started to get numb to what’s coming out of his mouth?”

“Well, I’m not numb to it,” proclaimed Sunny Hostin. She then blamed the media for amplifying Trump’s rhetoric.

“It’s so shocking in the way that media is trying to say — trying to portray, and I think media has a lot of blame there.”

Ana Navarro brought up a Fox News segment where contributor Raymond Arroyo declared that Trump “is connecting with Black America because they love sneakers. They’re into sneakers.”

Sara Haines said, “This is the shocking thing about Fox, honestly. They’re saying that so loosely. If I said that right here today, we would be celebrating my last day here at the show. Easily.”

She added that Trump’s statements are “disturbing, and I want to hold onto the shock. It should shock us. There are things like what [Trump] said that should shock everyone that hears it.”

Hostin interjected, “I’m not shocked. He’s saying the quiet part out loud.”

Goldberg got the final say:

I’m just going to say, it’s not a shock. I’ve seen what’s gone on in the country in the last several years and the things people have been trying to take away. So, this is not surprising to me, and it has never been surprising.

Everybody who lived here knew what he was when he got elected. We were trying to tell everybody, and every time somebody said, “Hey, this is really not a good idea,” people got pissed off. Now you know. So it’s up to you. This is in your hands.

So either that’s who you want for president or it isn’t. It’s that simple. If that’s the way you want to live with this cat, just know this is — today it’s us. Tomorrow it’s you.
