Trump Demands Endorsement From ‘Disloyal’ Former VP — Even After Defending His Supporters Who Wanted to ‘Hang Mike Pence’
Former President Donald Trump made it clear he expects Mike Pence to endorse his 2024 campaign despite the enduring friction between the two ever since their political partnership came to a calamitous ending.
The former Indiana governor and vice president to Trump surprised the political universe on Saturday by using a speech before the Republican Jewish Coalition Conference to announce his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race. Later, as Trump gave a speech in Nevada, he acknowledged Pence’s withdrawal by referring to the GOP candidates who have fallen in line behind him after dropping out.
Here’s what Trump said in Las Vegas:
People are leaving now and they’re all endorsing me. I don’t know about Mike Pence. He should endorse me. You know why? Because I had a great, successful presidency and he was the vice president. He should endorse me. I chose him, made him vice president. But people in politics can be very disloyal. I’ve never seen anything like it.
Trump’s derision of Pence as “disloyal” stems from the fact that he has never forgiven his former veep for refusing to go along with the ex-president’s unconstitutional attempts to overturn his 2020 election defeat.
In the past, Trump has repeatedly defended his supporters who besieged the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, including those who wanted to “Hang Mike Pence.” Trump’s former aides have testified under oath that the former president thought Pence “deserved” to be hanged by the riotous mob.
