Trump Says White House is Trying to Hunt Down the Whistleblower
President Donald Trump told reporters on Monday that his administration is trying to hunt down the whistleblower who lodged a complaint about his interactions with Ukraine.
During a pool spray from the Oval Office, Trump was asked if he knows the whistleblower’s identity.
“We’re trying to find out about a whistleblower,” Trump said. “We have a whistleblower who reports things that were incorrect as you know… The statement I made to the president of Ukraine, a good man, nice man, was perfect. It was perfect. But the whistleblower reported a totally different statement, like the statement was not even made.”
Trump continued to make statements about corruption, House Intelligence Committee chairman Adam Schiff, and a number of other related topics.
This comes after Trump’s acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire said the whistleblower did “the right thing” and followed protocol with the complaints they filed. Shortly after Trump’s comments, the whistleblower’s attorney took to Twitter to note that his client is legally entitled to their anonymity.
IC WB UPDATE: The Intel Community Whistleblower is entitled to anonymity. Law and policy support this and the individual is not to be retaliated against. Doing so is a violation of federal law.
