President Donald Trump is not happy with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and we know this because he took to social media and wrote, “I am not happy” following Russian missile strikes on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.
Russia launched its deadliest wave of attacks against Ukraine’s capital in nine months early Thursday, hours after Trump accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of harming peace talks during a Wednesday press gaggle in the Oval Office. CNN reports:
Moscow sent 70 missiles and 145 drones toward Ukraine, mainly targeting Kyiv, Ukraine’s Air Force said.
At least eight people were killed in the bombardment, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office said, which emergency services said struck 13 locations in Kyiv, including residential buildings and civilian infrastructure. Ukraine’s emergency services earlier reported that nine people had died and more than 60 had been wounded.
It was the costliest attack on the city since July 2024, when 33 people were killed in an aerial barrage that targeted a hospital and residential districts.
In a Thursday morning social media post, Trump wrote, “I am not happy with the Russian strikes on KYIV. Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP! 5000 soldiers a week are dying. Lets get the Peace Deal DONE!”

Trump had pledged to end the Russian invasion of Ukraine within 24 hours of being elected, but he and his diplomatic team have thus far found it difficult to broker a peace agreement with Russia and Ukraine, going so far as to suggest they will give up any efforts recently.
Trump has long boasted about enjoying a good relationship with Putin, a man who is charged with war crimes and is directly responsible for hundreds of thousands of dead soldiers and innocent civilians due to his deadly expansionism in overtaking Ukraine, a former Soviet Republic. In March, he praised Putin for being “generous.”

Trump’s social media message is about as critical a message that he has ever said about Putin, and critics might see it as an admission of weakness in dealing with his Russian counterpart.
