White House Spox Mocks Carl Bernstein: Been ‘Clawing for Relevancy’ for Decades
Veteran journalist Carl Bernstein said on CNN Sunday that he believes Attorney General Bill Barr is aiding and abetting President Donald Trump‘s cover-up.
Fox News’ Martha MacCallum spoke with White House principal deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley tonight and asked him for his reaction.
“When I heard what Carl Bernstein had to say,” Gidley responded, “that man has been scratching and clawing for relevancy since the 1970s. Every time I hear him speak on CNN––whose ratings speak for themselves––it’s almost like hearing a fifty-year-old man relive the glory days of when he threw a touchdown pass in high school. He cannot let it go when all he does is bring up Watergate consistently.”
He said it’s eating at Democrats that “there is no collusion and there is no obstruction” and nothing in the report changes that.
MacCallum brought up McGahn––who’s mentioned in the Mueller report as being a key player in documented obstructive acts––and the question of whether he’s going to testify.
She asked, “Did the White House have any involvement, any back and forth whatsoever with the former counsel, Don McGahn, about whether or not he is going to appear?”
“Not to my knowledge,” Gidley said before claiming the White House has been “completely transparent here.”
He went on to ask, “What do they want him to say? He has already testified 30-plus hours. They want more?… When is it going to be enough? This is over. The American people want to move on.”
