Alan Dershowitz, who has been fiercely critical of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into President Donald Trump’s campaign ties to Russia, warned that the raid of Michael Cohen’s office marks a drastic step for the probe.
In comments provided to the Daily Beast, the Harvard Law professor described the raid of Cohen, Trump’s personal attorney, as a “a tactic generally used against organized crime, against very serious, very serious criminals and lawyers who are operating outside of the protections of the law.”
To conduct the search of Cohen’s Manhattan office and hotel room, prosecutors obtained the search warrant after getting a referral from Mueller.
Appearing on Fox & Friends Tuesday morning Dershowitz declared it’s “a very dangerous day today for lawyer-client relations.”
“If this were Hillary Clinton being investigated, and they went into her lawyer’s office, the ACLU would be on every television station in America jumping up and down. The deafening silence of the ACLU and civil libertarians about the intrusion into the lawyer-client confidentiality, is really appalling.”
