AOC Accuses House Republicans of Cashing in After Getting Tipped off About Trump Tariff Pause: ‘I’ve Heard Murmurings’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is accusing President Donald Trump of sending a not-so-subtle signal to followers just before a tariff policy reversal that caused global markets to soar.

Just hours before Trump abruptly announced a 90-day pause on new tariffs for most countries on Wednesday – a move that sent the rattled S&P 500 up more than 9% and tech stocks into a 12% surge – the president took to Truth Social post to write: “THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO BUY!!! DJT.”

Speaking to Spectrum News’ Washington correspondent Kevin Frey, Ocasio-Cortez shared her belief that this was more than a “coincidence.”

“If people are pissed about insider trading here at the House, look at what’s happening at the White House right now and with the Republican Party,” she quipped.

“Do you think he knew what he was doing when he sent out that message about stocks before he made the announcement?” Frey asked.

She replied: “It sure seemed like he did. I don’t think that it was a coincidence. I don’t think that Trump just coincidentally said ‘buy stocks’ and then shortly later made an announcement that dramatically inflated and dramatically raised a lot of these asset prices.”

Hinting that House Republicans had been tipped off to the policy change, she added: “And, you know, I’ve heard murmurings on the floor that there may have been people that knew that this was coming. And I’m very interested in seeing some of the stock disclosures that come out, when those reports are due. And I’m very interested in what members of Congress have been buying and trading stocks in the last 24 hours prior to this tariff announcement.”

Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) have already called for an investigation, with Schiff demanding to know who inside the administration had prior knowledge of the tariff pause.

With the disclosure deadline looming, AOC added: “We’re about to learn a few things.”
