Awkward: Trump Doesn’t Play Along with Greta’s ‘You’re Fired’ Line on Obama

Donald Trump is famous for, in addition to pretending to run for president and New York governor, his reality game show catch phrase, “You’re fired.” But even he might be over it.

On Fox News’s On the Record with Greta Van Susteren Monday, Trump said he believes President Barack Obama is engaged in a “concerted effort” to allow undocumented immigrants to cross into the U.S., noting that Obama is scheduled to soon go on a five-week vacation.

“You know, I can’t even imagine that Donald Trump wouldn’t say ‘you’re fired,'” Van Susteren said. “I would think you’d say, ‘you’re fired.'”

Trump wasn’t in the mood, it seems. “Well, you know, it’s very cliche to do that, so I don’t have to do that here,” he replied. “Maybe there’ll be a time when you do that, I don’t know. It’s almost too serious to be joking.”

Van Susteren jumped in to explain herself and defuse the increasingly uncomfortable moment. “Donald, I’m saying it figuratively,” she said, “because, to me, you don’t leave when your job’s incomplete. … So, I say it to you figuratively.”
