Bob Woodward: Comey Firing ‘Is Not Yet Watergate…Not a Clear Crime’
Immediately after the stunning news dropped that President Donald Trump had fired FBI Director James Comey, the situation was being compared to Richard Nixon’s “Saturday Night Massacre” during the Watergate situation.
One of the reporters involved in breaking open that scandal advised caution this morning when it came to comparing this huge news story to Watergate.
“This is not yet Watergate,” Bob Woodward told Fox News Sunday’s Chris Wallace. “Not a clear crime. On the Russian issue Senator Warner and others have said there are a thousand questions and they should be answered.”
He added, “But there’s no evidence that President Trump, at this point, was somehow involved in collusion here.”
When pressed about Trump’s actions, Woodward admitted that they were “strange and unpredictable” but it still isn’t comparable to what occured with Nixon, since Nixon’s own White House counsel testified for four days that the president led obstruction.
