CBS News Finds Trump With RECORD Approval Rating – 70 Percent Say President Is ‘Doing What He Promised’

President Donald Trump enjoyed the highest approval rating of either of his terms in office this past week with Americans still divided against him, polling from CBS News found.

CBS News/YouGov poll released a poll Sunday, conducted from Feb. 5 to Feb. 7, that showed 53 percent of Americans approved of Trump’s job performance after three weeks back in office. Forty-seven percent of those who answered the survey said they disapproved.

Face the Nation anchor Margaret Brennan noted on Sunday morning that the poll was good news for Trump as he was upside down with a majority of voters in his first term.

“Just three weeks into his second term, our CBS poll finds that a majority of Americans, 53%, approve of the job he’s doing. That’s a better approval number than he ever reached during his first term in the White House,” Brennan said.

CBS News director of elections and surveys Anthony Salvanto added a strong majority of respondents said Trump was keeping his promises whether they approved of him or not:

He’s doing in the eyes of the public what he said he would do in the campaign. There’s political value in that. In fact, 70% of people say he’s doing what he promised. That’s whether they approve of him or not. Now, there’s another part of this that continues over from the campaign. There were words that he was described as being tough, being energetic, and he still is today in big majority numbers. So as people take a look in these first few weeks, there’s been a lot of activity. They’re getting that general sense of governance. And that’s being reflected in these early numbers.

Salvanto also noted a majority of Americans – 63 percent – viewed Trump as “energetic.” Sixty-nine percent said Trump was “tough.”

CBS News/YouGov surveyed 2,175 American adults and reported a margin of error at +/- 2.5 points.
