CNN Panel Slams Trump Lawyer for Backtracking: ‘His Entire Job Is to Represent the President’

Trump lawyer John Dowd initially said he is speaking for President Trump in calling for the Mueller probe to end.

Until he said he wasn’t. Dowd subsequently scrambled to claim to reporters he was only speaking for himself, not the President.

CNN legal analyst Michael Zeldin said even if Dowd is speaking for himself, he’s still “reflecting the sentiment of the President” and we’re getting Trump’s personal view too.

Brian Stelter, meanwhile, said we’re slowly edging closer towards the “cliff” of the President trying to remove Mueller:

“This is an extraordinary statement by John Dowd. We should take it on its face. Whether or not he said it for the President or not, he’s the President’s lawyer! His entire job is to represent the President! That’s his entire job. So either President Trump needs to get a new lawyer or John Dowd was trying to send a message today.”

David Swerdlick agreed that it’s absurd to say “the President’s lawyer does not speak on behalf of the President with regard to matters related to the President.”

“It’s preposterous,” he added.
