CNN’s Sanjay Gupta Debunks Trump’s Claim About Possibly Injecting People With Disinfectant: ‘Dangerous and Counterproductive’
Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN’s chief medical correspondent, issued a sharp rebuke of the claims made by President Donald Trump at the coronavirus press briefing Thursday evening, where the president floated the notion that medical doctors should look into injecting people with disinfectant to kill the coronavirus.
During the network’s eighth coronavirus town hall, Gupta zeroed in on Trump’s comments, strongly emphasizing that medical doctors should not and will not investigate Trump’s medically baseless proposals.
“It seems wildly irresponsible for the President of the United States to be musing out loud about people injecting disinfectant,” CNN host Anderson Cooper began. “Bleach and other disinfectants used to kill viruses on surfaces and in your kitchen, doing anything with that internally. It just – doctors, what do you make of it?”
“And he also said it needs to be studied. Actually it doesn’t,” Gupta pointed out. “I mean, we know the answer to this one. There’s a lot of things out there we don’t know the answers to and we need to investigate.”
“But the idea we would do a trial of some sort, inject some people with disinfectant, and some people not, and see what happens, I mean as you point out, I think everybody would know that would be dangerous and counterproductive, and not at all moving us in the right direction,” Gupta concluded.
