Colbert Persuades Cee-Lo To Change Lyric From “F*ck You” To “Fox News”
Cee-Lo Green‘s gleefully profane single, “Fuck You,” is insanely catchy—but unfortunately, it’s also a little too vulgar for television. So when Cee-Lo dropped by The Colbert Report last night, Stephen Colbert suggested new lyrics for the song: specifically, replacing the title expletive with “beef stew” or “Fox News.”
The last suggestion took, and Cee-Lo ended up performing a different version of his song, which went a little something like this:
I saw you drivin’ ’round town with the girl I love
On Fox News
Didn’t see one politician that wasn’t corrupt
On the Fox News
And I got the blues
The poor get poorer, the rich get richer
Ain’t that some shhhh?
(Ain’t that some shhh?)
I’m having pains in my chest because I’m so stressed
From the Fox News
And in case you’re unfamiliar with the song, here’s how the chorus actually goes:
I see you drivin’ ’round town with the girl i love
And I’m like, Fuck you!
I guess the change in my pocket wasn’t enough
I’m like, fuck you!
And fuck her too!
I said, if I was richer, I’d still be with ya
Ha, now ain’t that some shit?
(Ain’t that some shit?)
And though there’s pain in my chest, I still wish you the best
With a… Fuck you!
