With Christiane Amanpour now at the helm of ABC’s This Week, the Sunday show battle has heated up.
NBC’s Meet the Press anchor David Gregory has the big get next week, as he announced at the end of this week’s show it will be a “special edition” from Afghanistan with a Gen. David Petraeus exclusive interview.
It will be Gen. Petraeus’ first interview since taking over for Gen. Stanley McChrystal as the top commander in Afghanistan. The NBC release says, “Gen. David Petraeus will sit down exclusively with NBC News’ David Gregory to discuss military strategy and the overall outlook for the nearly 9 year war.”
It will surely be a newsmaking interview, and is an important exclusive. But it also delves into the territory one might expect from Amanpour. As Gregory suddenly no longer becomes the new guy of the D.C.-based shows, he flies out of D.C. to Afghanistan for a decidedly outside-the-beltway interview. It will be interesting to see how often Amanpour steps out of Washington for ‘special editions’ of This Week.
He has previously covered the war in Afghanistan as a correspondent for NBC News.
