Don Lemon on Megyn Kelly Blackface Controversy: ‘It is Partially the Fault of the People who Hired Her’
On Thursday night, CNN’s Don Lemon joined Chris Cuomo to talk about the controversy surrounding NBC’s Megyn Kelly after her comments about blackface on air that have led to reports that she is exiting NBC for good.
During that talk, Lemon said he hates for anyone to lose their job and he doesn’t want to “pile on to Megyn.”
He then said this, noting the NBC execs who hired her also bore part of the blame: “She made some mistakes and now she’s suffering the consequences of those mistakes. But I also think that it is partially the fault of the people who hired her because Megyn’s record, how she feels about things, she says she’s not PC. It’s there. All you have to do is do a Google search. And she’s very outspoken in her views and how she feels about things. They knew exactly what they were getting when they hired Megyn Kelly.”
He continued on: “Now, that said, it doesn’t make up for the fact that she was unaware of the situation, and what she did was insensitive. I never said that it was racist. I won’t go that far. But she was just — she’s unaware of the history and she said as much as that. So I think the management has to take some responsibility in it. She has to take some responsibility in it.”
