Donald Sterling Dropped by a Black Church Service in South LA for Some Reason

Embattled Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling — who in the last month has been caught on tape saying horrific racist slurs, been barred from the NBA, given one of the most cringe-inducing television interviews in a while, and possibly been declared incompetent — attended a service at Praises of Zion Missionary Baptist Church, a largely African American church on Sunday.

Why? Well, he was invited by the pastor, who met him two weeks ago. But he also brought along a news crew, so “repairing ye olde tattered image” might have something to do with it. It wasn’t a total flop, either: “I believe he did the right thing by coming here,” one parishioner said.

But mostly it was. “I feel sorry for him,” another said. “He’s a slum landlord, and I don’t think he really cares for people as he should.”

Sterling’s former mistress V. Stiviano, whose recording was the catalyst for his tailspin, isn’t having the best weekend either.
