Elon Musk Details Horrifying Reason Why He Wants to Colonize Mars: “Life Insurance for Life’
Elon Musk revealed to Fox News’ Jesse Watters that his desire to colonize Mars stems from wanting to get the entire human race a “life insurance” policy.
“Mars is life insurance for life collectively,” Musk told Watters on Monday.
Musk broke it down even further, saying all living creatures will eventually be “incinerated” by the sun. He said he envisions a future of “multi-planetary” living for humans.
“So, eventually, all life on Earth will be destroyed by the sun. The sun is gradually expanding, and so we do at some point need to be a multi-planet civilization because Earth will be incinerated,” he said.
Experts have said it will take more than a billion years for the sun will gradually make Earth unlivable for living organisms, according to Live Science.
“I’m hearing this for the first time. No one’s ever told me the sun is going to burn—” Watters began in shock.
“It’s not a disputed fact,” Musk said.
“I’m not disagreeing with it. I’m just saying I didn’t know this was our destiny to get roasted by the sun,” Watters commented.
“Yes, and I don’t think there’s anyone who would disagree with me,” Musk said.
The SpaceX owner assured Watters he has a “few hundred million years” before he needs to concern himself with the sun’s expansion.
“If Earth has been around for 4.5 billion years, which is what the fossil record suggests, then Earth only has about 10% more life in it before it is, before it gets so hot that life is impossible,” Musk said.
The goal, he added, is to create a “self-sustaining city” on Mars. The billionaire called the planet “sufficiently self-sustaining.” Musk previously predicted during a 2021 podcast that he would manage to land a human on Mars in five to 10 years.
“Mars is sufficiently self-sustaining and can grow by itself if the resupply shifts from Earth stop coming for any reason, whether that is because civilization died with a bang or a whimper,” he explained. “But if the resupply shifts are necessary for Mars to survive, then we have not created life insurance. We’ve not created life insurance for life collectively.”
