Hillary: Trump ‘Undermined’ Integrity of SCOTUS by Turning Kavanaugh Ceremony Into a ‘Political Rally’
Former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is not impressed with how President Trump conducted himself at last night’s ceremony for the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh.
Before Kavanaugh was formally sworn as a new justice of the Supreme Court, Trump took the ceremony in a politically-charged direction by lamenting the “terrible pain and suffering” Kavanaugh faced over the last few weeks. These comments came in the aftermath of the bruising political saga caused by Kavanaugh’s alleged sexual misconduct with multiple women.
Since Clinton is about to go on a speaking tour with her husband, CNN International’s Christiane Amanpour asked for her thoughts about the ceremony. Clinton reacted with dismay, saying Trump’s remarks were both predictable and likely to sow further division for the country.
“What was done last night in the White House was a political rally. It further undermined the image and integrity of the court. And that troubles me greatly. It saddens me, because our judicial system has been viewed as one of the main pillars of our constitutional government, so I don’t know how people are going to react to it. I think, given our divides, it will pretty much fall predictably between those who are for and those who are against. But the president has been true to form. He has insulted, attacked, demeaned women throughout the campaign, really for many years leading up to the campaign, and he’s continued to do that inside the White House.”
