Fox News’ Howard Kurtz is far from impressed with NBC after the network chose to spike the story which became the latest bombshell on Harvey Weinstein‘s sexual harassment scandal.
On Tuesday night, NBC contributing correspondent Ronan Farrow told Rachel Maddow that he originally approached the network with his explosive exposé about Weinstein and his rape accusers. Farrow said network officials told him his story didn’t meet their reporting standards, so he took it to The New Yorker and ran it there instead.
Kurtz was asked for his thoughts about this, and he told Stuart Varney “this is a major embarassment for NBC.” As Kurtz noted the connections between Weinstein’s business empire and NBC, Varney wondered if there was a “political association” at play due to the Weinstein’s support for liberal causes.
Kurtz thought Farrow had a “well-documented story” yesterday, and it was strange NBC decided to not even run the disturbing comments Weinstein made on audio tape.
“You have to wonder if this had been a conservative, a big Republican fundraiser, whether NBC would have the hesitation,” said Kurtz. “Very hard to understand the editorial decision there.”
