Howard Lutnick Insults European Meat in Bizarre Fox News Rant: ‘Our Beef Is Beautiful and Theirs Is Weak’
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick accused Europe of having “weak” beef in a bizarre rant about European countries not importing American meat.
During an appearance on Fox News’ Hannity Wednesday night, Lutnick protested:
I mean, the European Union won’t take chicken from America! They won’t take lobsters from America. They hate our beef because our beef is beautiful and theirs is weak. It’s unbelievable! We can’t sell corn to India, we can’t sell rice to Asia. Why in the world do we let these people sell their cars? 94% of cars in Japan are made in Japan. They just block us and finally, finally the man behind the Resolute desk, the man in the Oval Office, Donald Trump, is finally standing up for our farmers, our ranchers, and our manufacturers to let the world understand either they’re buying our products or don’t bother coming here unless you’re paying for the right to come.
Importing American beef into the European Union is currently restricted due to an E.U.-wide ban on meat, which has been raised with Hormonal Growth Promotants.
The European Union has also restricted imports of American poultry due to its tendency to be washed with chlorine – a banned practice in both Europe and the U.K. – while in 2o16, Sweden asked the E.U. to ban imports of live American lobster due to concerns over them being an invasive species.
Genetically modified foods and crops treated with pesticides banned in the E.U. for being toxic to humans have also faced restrictions.
President Donald Trump unveiled new “reciprocal tariffs” on dozens of countries and territories on Wednesday, including uninhabited islands and a territory where the only notable settlement is a U.S. military base.
