‘It’s 9:26 PM and You’ve Not Decided How You’re Gonna Vote Tomorrow?’ Kaitlan Collins Gobsmacked by Republican Guest Ahead of Crucial Vote

CNN’s Kaitlan Collins seemed taken aback by Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN), who said he does not know how he will vote on a bill to avoid a government shutdown.

On Tuesday, the House is set to vote on a Republican bill to fund the government and avoid a shutdown at the end of the week. Republicans hold a mere 218-214 majority. Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) is whipping his conference to vote against the resolution, which was crafted without Democratic input. Some in the GOP have urged Democrats to vote for the legislation, and have even suggested they will be to blame if it does not pass.

The resolution would fund the government through the end of September.

On Monday’s edition of The Source on CNN, Burchett said he isn’t leaning one way or another ahead of Tuesday’s vote.

Collins also asked the congressman about the seemingly united Democratic front against the bill as a handful of Republicans have suggested they may vote against the measure.

“What does it say if Democrats remain unified in not voting for this and not supporting it, and Republicans are not unified?” she asked.

“Well, I’m sure you all will say that the Republicans don’t care and want to shut the government down,” Burchett replied.

“But what I mean, you are the one who decides that essentially,” Collins said, alluding to the GOP’s tiny House majority.

“I am,” the lawmaker replied. “I realize that.”

“It’s 9:26 p.m. and you’ve not decided how you’re going to vote tomorrow?” Collins asked, somewhat incredulously.

“That’s correct,” Burchett answered.

“Could President Trump sway your vote with a phone call?” the host asked.

“Yeah, possibly,” he said.

Collins noted that President Donald Trump phoned to urge him to vote for a budget resolution last month, which Burchett did.

Before that vote, Trump also called Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN), reportedly “fuming” and “screaming” at her after she said she would vote no on the bill, which she ended up voting for.
