Joe Scarborough: The Midterm Headline Is ‘The End of One-Party Rule In Washington’
Viewers that tuned in to Morning Joe on Wednesday morning looking for a clean headline to explain the midterm election results from the night before were not disappointed.
After an up and down evening of results for both Republicans and Democrats that demonstrated no mandate nor wave of any color, co-host Joe Scarborough put it in as clear as terms as possible, saying “Because, at the end of the day, the big headline is the end of one-party rule in Washington. That’s the headline.”
“The race at the end of the day that mattered the most were those races in the house, mattered the most to Donald Trump, mattered the most to Republicans on the hill because now they have the power to investigate, they have the power to subpoena, and most importantly, they actually are going to be able to return checks and balances to Washington.”
After some back and forth on the panel the cameras turned to John Heilemann who added that it’s not just President Donald Trump that will now be in check from a newly Democratically controlled House of Representatives, saying “the message to every Trump cabinet secretary this morning is lawyer up.”
