Joy Behar Walks Back Comments Mocking Pence For Speaking to Jesus: ‘It Was a Joke’
Joy Behar didn’t mean to offend when she implied VP Mike Pence is a little nuts because he allegedly believes Jesus speaks to him.
“Do you think Christians are mentally ill?” Whoopi Goldberg asked on Thursday’s episode of The View (which was largely pre-empted in many markets due to special coverage of the Parkland, FL school shooting).
“Of course not. I don’t mean to offend people, but apparently I keep doing it,” Behar said. “It was a joke. Comedians are in danger these days.”
Goldberg then responded to allegations that The View and ABC are intolerant of others’ religious beliefs because of what was said on the show.
“To call us intolerant or to call out ABC… I find a little hard,” she said.
“I give money to the church. I actually help Christians with my pocketbook,” Behar added.
Then Meghan McCain chimed in with a bit more of a dig at Behar: “I’ve had a very hard time the last two days with this… As a Republican, I feel like sometimes liberals say we need to be tolerant of everyone, except pro-lifers, except Trump supporters, except gun owners, except for everyone in the red in the middle of the country.”
“I’m gonna stop you because that’s not actually true,” Goldberg said, as McCain stammered and tried to interject.
“I’m trying to get out of this because this is what they’ve asked me to do, so if we can do it sort of quickly?” Goldberg entreated.
