Laura Ingraham Praises Conservative Athlete for Sharing His Politics After Telling LeBron to ‘Shut and Dribble’ When He Shared His
Fox News host Laura Ingraham hailed Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker on Thursday for getting political. It was a luxury she was unwilling to afford LeBron James when he dared espouse some of his political views.
Butker, a devout Catholic, delivered the commencement speech at Benedictine College in Kansas on Saturday. Addressing the women in the crowd, Butker said, “Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world. But I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.”
The kicker went on to say that being a homemaker is “one of the most important titles” for women to have.
He also criticized in vitro fertilization, surrogacy, gay pride marches, “degenerate cultural values,” abortion, and President Joe Biden.
Butker’s speech was far more political in nature than some comments LeBron James made in 2018 that drew Ingraham’s ire.
“The No. 1 job in America, the appointed person is someone who doesn’t understand the people,” James said about then-President Donald Trump during an interview in which he also said some of Trump’s remarks were “laughable and scary.”
Ingraham responded on her show at the time by calling James’ comments “barely intelligible.”
“It’s always unwise to seek political advice from someone who gets paid $100 million a year to bounce a ball. Keep the political comments to yourselves,” she said. “Shut up and dribble.”
On Thursday, Ingraham did not tell Butker to “Shut up and kick.”
“At a time, though, when woke secularists dominate media, corporate America, Hollywood, and most universities, being a public witness to your Christian faith? Now that takes courage because speaking out may actually mean that you lose everything,” Ingraham said.
She then played several clips of “Harrison Bukter” giving his commencement address. The clips were mainly Butker speaking about his faith and dinging diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. His more overtly political and cultural remarks – such as calling IVF the result of “the pervasiveness of disorder” and talk about Biden’s “support for the murder of innocent babies” – were omitted.
Ingraham went on to slam the media for criticizing some of Butker’s remarks. She also ripped the NFL for issuing a statement saying, “His views are not those of the NFL as an organization.”
The host also said that the NFL has “harbored its fair share of rapists.”
Ingraham concluded her seven-minute monologue praising Butker by encouraging more Christians to speak out.
“But be not afraid,” she said.
