Lester Holt Ends First Night as Official Anchor by Acknowledging ‘Difficult Time’

Tonight was Lester Holt‘s first night as the official anchor of NBC Nightly News. NBC made the announcement last week, while also announcing Brian Williams would be banished to move to MSNBC as their point man on breaking news.

At the end of tonight’s newscast, Holt said he was “honored” to be taking the helm, and said, “Your loyalty and viewership during a difficult time has been appreciated by all of us on this program.”

Holt added, “I want to express my sincere thanks to my friend and colleague Brian Williams for his kind words of support.”
