Bill Maher Battles Gen. Tony Zinni over Whether ‘Latte-gate’ Was Disrespectful

Bill Maher could not believe the completely ridiculous “latte-gate” controversy swirling this week about President Obama‘s coffee cup salute. He mocked the hype and said, “If this offends you that much, you should marry your teddy bear.”

General Anthony Zinni actually told Maher he was bothered by Obama’s salute, because it struck him as disrespectful. He said it was more like a “frat house” gesture than something the President of the United States would do.

Maher and Zinni ended up battling over the origins of the salute, and of the president giving the salute. Maher said it’s a fairly recent thing anyway, arguing that Ronald Reagan was the first president to really start saluting. They kept going back and forth on this before Maher just asked, “What if Obama had saluted with coffee and a tan suit on?”
