Michael Cohen Lawyer Rips Trump After Tape Airs on CNN: ‘Only People Who Use Cash Are Drug Dealers and Mobsters’
Michael Cohen lawyer Lanny Davis spoke with CNN’s Chris Cuomo tonight right after Cuomo played audio of the tape of Cohen and Donald Trump talking about a payment to buy the rights to Karen McDougal‘s story.
McDougal, of course, is the former Playboy model who has alleged Trump had an affair with her.
One of the key reasons Davis explained he gave the tape to CNN was to push back against the spin from Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani that it’s Cohen on tape saying the word “cash.”
Davis told Cuomo the tape clearly shows that it’s Trump who says “cash” and declared, “Richard Nixon couldn’t spin the tape that did him in, and there’s no way that Mr. Giuliani, who knows from being U.S. Attorney, the only people who use cash are drug dealers and mobsters. Cash is not what you do, and it was Michael Cohen who said, ‘No, no, no, no.’ And Donald Trump, despite what Rudy Giuliani said publicly, the tape contradicts Mr. Giuliani and the word ‘cash’ is heard by everyone.”
Cuomo noted that Trump’s legal team is disputing that is what is being said, telling Davis that they believe Trump is saying Trump said “Don’t pay with cash.”
As Cuomo laid out what Giuliani’s argument is, Davis countered his argument is not get people to ignore their own ears.
At one point Davis said, “Why am I representing him [Cohen]? They fear that he has the truth about Donald Trump. He will someday speak the truth about Donald Trump.”
