Mika Brzezinski Confronts Chris Christie for Hedging on Jim Jordan Amid Speaker Turmoil: ‘You Know What He’s Done!’

Mika Brzezinski wouldn’t let Chris Christie get away with his attempts to abstain on his opinion about whether Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH) should be Speaker of the House.

The Republican presidential candidate joined Morning Joe on Wednesday, where the conversation turned to the paralysis in the House of Representatives following Kevin McCarthy’s ouster. Asked if he supports Jordan’s speaker bid despite yesterday’s defeat, Christie answered “I just want them to pick somebody,” which caused Brzezinski to exclaim “C’mon!”

Jonathan Lemire attempted to press Christie over Jordan’s 2020 election denial. However, the former New Jersey governor defended his refusal to opine because “People who want to be the executive don’t get involved in legislative leadership races because you always lose.”

I didn’t support the removal of McCarthy and I think it was a mistake and I don’t think there’s anything that Kevin McCarthy did that should have necessitated his removal from office. I think it was a mistake and this whole crisis starts there. Those eight folks who decided to remove him, really for personal reasons, to support Matt Gaetz, who doesn’t like him because he wouldn’t rig the ethics investigation for Matt Gaetz, let’s be honest. That’s what it was, it’s nothing more than that, that was the first mistake. I know Steve Scalise and I would have been fine with him. I don’t know Jim Jordan. I’ve never met him. So it’s hard for me to make any comments on that and getting involved, I didn’t support Steve Scalise. I’m not going to get involved in this race.

Brzezinski wasn’t satisfied, telling Christie “You can’t say ‘I don’t know him.'”

“I’ve never met him!” Christie responded. “I can say I don’t know him, because I’ve never met him!”

The exchange continued between the two as Brzezinski tried again to get an actual opinion about Jordan.

“Jim Jordan’s going to help the Republican party into the future? An election denier?” She asked. “You know what he’s done!”

Christie answered “I’m not supporting Jim Jordan,” though he mostly emphasized the need to elect a new speaker to restart Congress.

“I want them just to get it over with,” he said. “And I quite frankly at this point, after two weeks, don’t care who it is. Pick somebody and let’s go. Let’s get to work. The American people are tired of sitting and watching these folks navel gaze and snipe at each other and accomplish nothing.”
