Mitch Daniels to MSNBC: ‘Bet Against’ Me As Romney’s VP Pick

On Friday morning’s edition of MSNBC’s The Daily Rundown, host Chuck Todd asked Indiana’s Republican Governor Mitch Daniels whether he’d consider to participate should Mitt Romney select him as a vice-presidential candidate. Daniels shut down any potential rumors, insisting he is not interested in being vice-president, and that everyone should “make some easy money and bet against this whole idea.”

Concluding an interview on a variety of other subjects, Todd asked Daniels, “Will you participate in the vetting process if the Romney campaign asks you to?”

Daniels was frank in his response:

Chuck, let me give you the best tip you’ll get all day: Make some easy money and bet against this whole idea. I’m not interested in doing that. It won’t happen anyway and if I have something to contribute to the national debate we’re in then I’ll look for other ways.

“So,” Todd pressed on, “if he comes asking, you’re not going to take the phone call?”

“Well, it’s the call that won’t come,” Daniels replied.
