NBC’s Hallie Jackson Confronts Sarah Sanders About Trump’s ‘Standard of Accuracy’
NBC News chief White House correspondent Hallie Jackson scuffled with press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders over her knock on the media for not holding themselves to a “high standard of accuracy,” as the reporter pointed to some of the president’s more outlandish claims and asked if she holds him to that same standard.
“Your comments citing the L.A. Times article, when asked — I think by John here — about the president’s rape remarks at that event last week, that didn’t actually back up the president’s claim,” Jackson said during today’s White House press briefing. “You actually, last fall, admonished reporters to make sure we hold ourselves to a high standard of accuracy. Does the president also need to be held to that same standard of accuracy?”
“Absolutely,” shot back Sanders, who defended Trump’s claims regarding female migrants being raped.
“80% of the women that make that — that go through that process and try to enter the country are raped through that process,” continued Sanders. “Something certainly that I think should concerning to all of us, and something that certainly the president has voiced concern about.”
Jackson followed-up by calling-out Trump’s voter fraud claims that are “also not backed up by evidence,” asking Huckabee Sanders about the President’s “standard of accuracy” Quizzed Jackson.”
While Trump’s voter fraud conspiracy theory is not backed-up by any real evidence and instead appears to be his way of excusing his loss of the popular vote, Huckabee Sanders still maintained that the president cares about accuracy and “feels strongly there was a large amount of voter fraud.” Rather than blaming Trump for making pushing the right-wing conspiracy, Sanders blamed states for not cooperating, as many state governments “refused to participate.”
