New York Mayor on Trump’s Mental Fitness: ‘I Hope He is Sane — His Actions Don’t Suggest It’

The leading on-air armchair psychiatrists for Donald Trump at MSNBC’s Morning Joe remained skeptical of the president’s mental fitness on Wednesday, even after the White House doctor vouched for his sanity in a briefing. Notably, Morning Joe guest Bill de Dlasio said Trump’s “actions don’t suggest” he is mentally well.

After the New York City mayor made the comments, MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski — who has been one of the top cable news critics of Trump’s health — responded in agreement.

“Obviously, I hope he is sane. His actions don’t suggest it,” de Blasio said — to which Brzezinski replied, “I know.”

The mayor prefaced by admitting that he is not qualified to address the issue, but continued lobbing his different theories on the matter. “I don’t know. I’m not a psychiatrist. I don’t know where to separate a clinical issue from a judgment issue or ego issue,” de Blasio added.

Additionally, de Blasio slammed Trump’s actions as being totally “inconsistent with American values” and appeared to use the mental health issue as an excuse or an attempt to explain away the president’s recent controversial comments.

While Brzezinski clarified that she hopes the president is well, the host also noted that this new health report could actually make Trump’s actions more concerning in her eyes.

“It takes the behavior that concerns us and puts it in a different realm,” she said. “I wasn’t trying to be funny at all.”

“An illness can be treated, reality can’t,” Brzezinski concluded.
