Newsmax’s Greg Kelly Suggests Black Capitol Police Officer Lied About Being Called ’N*****’ on January 6

On Tuesday night, Newsmax host Greg Kelly criticized the officers who testified before the House select committee that is investigating the January 6 Capitol insurrection. In the case of one Black officer who testified he was called a “n****r” by members of the mob that day, the host said he doubts that’s true.

Earlier in the day, Kelly, the son of a former NYPD police commissioner, took to Twitter in order to trash those officers, who had responded to the Capitol. He called them “pawns” and said they should “resign.”

Later that evening on Newsmax, Kelly reacted to the testimony of Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn. Kelly said Capitol Police was ill-prepared for what happened on January 6.

Then Kelly turned to Dunn’s testimony in which said he and other Black officers were subjected to vicious verbal abuse by members of the January 6 mob, including racist epithets. That testimony read in part:

I’m a law enforcement officer, and I do my best to keep politics out of my job, but in this circumstance I responded “Well I voted for Joe Biden. Does my vote not count? Am I nobody?”

That prompted a torrent of racial epithets. One woman in a pink MAGA shirt yelled “You hear that guys? This n***er voted for Joe Biden!”

Then the crowd, perhaps around 20 people, joined in the screaming “Boo! Fucking n***er!”

No one had ever ever called me a n***er while wearing the uniform of capital police officer.

In the days following the attempted insurrection, other Black officers shared with me their own stories of racial abuse on January 6th. One officer told me he had never in his entire 40 years of life been called a n***er to his face. And that streak ended on January 6th.

Yet another Black officer later told me he had been confronted by insurrectionists in the Capitol who told him “Put your gun down and we’ll show you what kind of n***er you really are.”

Kelly responded by saying he simply didn’t believe Dunn.

“Where’s the audio?” Kelly asked. “Sorry, but uh, there were 900 body cams. There were surveillance all over the place. Where’s the audio? I’ve heard all kinds of audio, but I haven’t heard that. I haven’t heard that. And I doubt that. I do.”

Dunn and the other officers testified under oath.

While numerous members of the mob can be seen on video physically attacking police officers, Kelly clearly thinks using a racial slur was beneath them.
