NY Times’ Maggie Haberman: Today’s Bombshell News ‘Politically Very Damaging for the President’
During a CNN panel discussing the bombshell news that President Donald Trump‘s former fixer Michael Cohen met with a Russian who offered “political synergy” to the Trump campaign, the New York Times‘ Maggie Haberman pointed out that this looks bad for the president.
“That seems like integrating two different things,” Haberman said. “I know the president repeatedly says no collusion. We don’t know who this official was. There’s a lot we don’t know about what this is describing. Although, it might refer to some previous reporting in BuzzFeed.”
She then added that it makes it hard not to see it as a collaboration. “Synergy sounds a lit collusiony.”
Former US Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara then quipped, “I think it’s a Harvard Business school term for collusion.”
Haberman then stressed that this whole thing could be “politically very damaging for the president.”
Host Anderson Cooper then asked if this political mire might ultimately stick this time.
“I think this could stick, yeah,” she replied. “I think Jerry Nadler when he comes in as the chairman of the House Judiciary he will have to decide what he’s going to do about a potential impeachment effort that, I think, a lot of Democrats are going to want to bring.”
