One Of Marvel’s Avengers Actors Didn’t Actually Endorse Donald Trump (UPDATED)
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump might have missed out on the crucial ex-porn star vote, but it looks like a member of Hollywood’s most popular franchise just gave the New York real estate mogul his endorsement.
Actor Anthony Mackie, who’s currently promoting his political comedy Our Brand Is Crisis, sat down with BET to discuss the film. The actor plays a political consultant in the film, which tells the story of several American campaign managers and professionals who compete with one another via a presidential election in Bolivia.
When asked if he would rather run Trump’s campaign or Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton‘s efforts, Mackie chose the former.
“I would 100 percent want to run Trump’s campaign. 100 percent. I mean, first that’ll be the best party ever when he won, and second, Trump’s an easy sell,” he said. “When you look at Trump, he’s an easy sell because you can sell him as the guy who worked his way up from nothing. And I think if you’re a ‘pull yourself up by your bootstraps’ candidate, people would identify with that.”
Mackie’s statement is purely about which campaign he’d prefer to run, himself having just starred in a film about the management of political campaigns. Yet when the interviewer subsequently asked the actor if his statements were “an endorsement for Trump,” Mackie said they were.
“I’m on the bandwagon. I’m drinking the Kool-Aid.”

UPDATE–4:38 p.m.: Unsurprisingly, Mackie retracted his statement on Twitter, calling it “a bad attempt at a joke.”
Sorry Donald, that wasn’t an endorsement. Just a bad attempt at a joke, I guess?
