Sarah Sanders Declines to Say Russia Responsible for Nerve Agent Attack After UK Comments

Sarah Huckabee Sanders gave a total non-answer today when asked if the Trump Administration would condemn Russia over the news that the Kremlin is a prime suspect in the recent attack against former spy-turned-double agent Sergei Skripal.

When Prime Minister Theresa May spoke today, she said it was “highly likely” that the Russian government was responsible for the military-grade nerve agent attack against Skripal and his daughter, who live in the United Kingdom. When Sanders was asked about this development and whether there would be any repercussions, the press secretary called the attack an “outrage,” but did not explicitly blame Russia.

“We stand by our closest ally and the special relationship that we have,” Sanders said. When asked whether Russia was responsible or not, Sanders spun away again.

“They’re still working through even some of the details of that. We’re going to continue to keep working with the U.K. We certainly stand with them throughout this process.”
