White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said she couldn’t guarantee that there is no tape recording of President Donald Trump using the N-word.
Sanders was bombarded with questions today regarding Omarosa Manigault-Newman‘s secret recordings and the salacious claims from her new book. At one point, Sanders was asked about Manigault-Newman’s revival of the old rumor that Trump was caught on tape using racial slurs when filming The Apprentice.
When asked if she had asked the president if he’s ever used the N-word, Sanders said she never heard Trump used racial slurs, and referred to his recent tweets denying the claims.
NBC’s Kristen Welker then asked Sanders: “can you stand at the podium and guarantee the American people will never hear Donald Trump utter the N-word on a recording in any context?”
“I can’t guarantee anything,” Sanders said. “I can tell you the president addressed this question directly. I can tell you that I’ve never heard it.”
Sanders proceeded to cite a decline in African-American unemployment under the Trump administration, and bash former President Barack Obama for “only [creating] 195,000 jobs for African-Americans” in his eight years in office.
When Welker followed up to ask Sanders to confirm that she could not guarantee there wasn’t a tape of Trump using the N-word, Sanders replied, “I haven’t been in every single room. I can tell you the president has addressed this directly.”
