Scarborough on Saudis: ‘This Isn’t About Human Rights; This Is About Trump Organization Money’
The story of missing journalist Jamal Khashoggi took another strange turn when President Donald Trump seemed to confirm the Washington Post’s journalists death during an improvised press gaggle on the White House lawn.
It was the first we’d heard any official discussed his killing when the Commander in Chief floated a “rogue killers” theory that seemed to cue the Saudia Arabian Royal Family to prepare a similar explanation of an “interrogation gone wrong.”
The Morning Joe panel opened today’s show with this subject, led by host Joe Scarborough who expressed great cynicism at how the Trump administration appears to be playing “PR man for the Saudis” in this story,
“But right now, the Saudis and Donald Trump find themselves in a position where they’re desperate to keep investment going into Saudi Arabia,” Scarborough noted, before likening this to Trump’s arrangement with Vladimir Putin and Russia.
“Just like the Russians poured a lot of money into Donald Trump and the Trump organization’s coffers over the last decade or so,” Scarborough said. He then stuck the landing with “This isn’t about foreign policy. This isn’t about human rights. This is about Trump Organization money.”
The United States Constitution includes a “Title of Nobility Clause” (also known as the “Emoluments Clause”) which ostensibly restricts members of the government from receiving titles, gifts, and emoluments from foreign states without the consent of Congress.
Scarborough appears to be suggesting that Trump’s foreign policy is driven more by improving the Trump Organization’s bottom line than what is in the best interest of the United States.
