Stephanopoulos Grills Sarah Sanders: Why Does Trump Always Take Side of the Man Accused?

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders is in New York City this week traveling with President Donald Trump for the United General Assembly and took the occasion to visit the set of Good Morning America. Host George Stephanopoulos took the occasion to address a number of issues in the news.

After a lengthy conversation about the embattled Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh, the GMA host grilled Sanders on what appears to be a pattern of Trump supporting men who are accused of sexual misconduct.

“It does seem that the president has already reached a judgment about their stories and when Roy Moore and Bill O’Reilly an Roger Ailes, Rob Porter accused and now when Brett Kavanaugh is accused, the president consistently every single time takes the side of the man.”

Sanders appeared ready for such a query and replied “it’s interesting that you say that. It’s a lot of Democrats that like to ignore Keith Ellison and Cory Booker and love to fight and champion women until they disagree.”

But Stephanopoulos would not get distracted, doubling down with “Every single time the president has taken the side of the man against women accusers.”

Sanders denied the claim (without providing evidence), saying “That’s not true,” before pivoting “In this case, the president knows Brett Kavanaugh. He’s heard his story. There hasn’t been a shred of evidence to corroborate the other individual stories and there has been a lot of individuals that have come forward and talked about the Brett Kavanaugh that they know and they’re confident these things didn’t happen.”
